Scientific Heritage

A significant contribution to the scientific heritage of the institute was made by scientists who worked here at different times

During the period of the Institute’s existence, a number of schools have been established, namely:

School of Prof. Kozak Ye. I. – developed systems of fertilization for agricultural crops in field crop rotations: new forms of mineral fertilizers; zeolites as adsorbents to reduce nutrient leaching from soil; studied the effect of individual elements on light-gray forest soils under different levels of mineral nutrition; effectiveness of magnesium-containing and peat-mineral fertilizers with the use of carboammonium salts; investigated a resource-saving fertilization system with the use of intermediate green manures; substantiated methods of restoring fertility of light-gray forest soil within an ecologically balanced farming system.

School of Prof. Duka V. I. – substantiated farming systems for the forest-steppe zone of the Western region; strip farming for foothill and mountain areas of the Carpathians; agrotechnical methods of soil erosion control; rational technologies for the reclamation of drained sod-podzolic surface-gleyed loamy soils with unsatisfactory water-physical properties.

School of Prof. Kiyak H. S. – substantiated agrobiological foundations for increasing productivity and improving grain quality of cereals, legumes, groat crops, and technical crops; annual and perennial grass-legume mixtures; resource-saving, environmentally safe, and economically efficient technologies for their cultivation.

School of Prof. Malusha K. V. – studied a number of regularities in the biology of trait inheritance; different types of protective reactions to damage – necrotic, chlorotic, heterogeneous; proved that the formation of traits in hybrid material is significantly influenced by pollen age as well as soil-climatic conditions of growing the crossing components and hybrids.

School of Prof. Koziy H. V. – substantiated technologies for improving and rational use of natural forage lands; creation and use of cultivated pastures and hayfields; ecological and biological properties of major species of perennial grass-legume crops and their mixtures in agrocenoses.

School of Prof. Favorov O. M. – substantiated methods of potato breeding and genetics, resulting in the creation of new varieties of this crop; developed technological processes for their cultivation and seed production.

School of Prof. Palfiy F. Yu. – conceptually substantiated the role of sulfur in stimulating the synthesis of biologically active compounds by symbiotic microbial associations in the forestomachs of ruminants, in silage and peat; studied the influence of biologically active compounds, phytoestrogens, and isoflavones on metabolic processes in farm animals, milk productivity, and reproductive function of cattle.

School of Prof. Zvierieva H. V. – substantiated scientific foundations for prevention and treatment of obstetric pathology and gynecological diseases in animals; developed methods to increase reproductive capacity of breeding herds; established genetic determination and inheritance of reproductive traits in bulls.

School of Prof. Vudmasko V. Yu. – substantiated physiological foundations of adequate animal feeding; effective technologies for harvesting, processing, storing, and using feed; developed formulations of complete dry feed mixtures, compound feeds, protein-mineral, protein-fat-mineral, mineral supplements and premixes using high-protein components of local production.

School of Prof. Mashchak Ya. I. – established the relationship between sward degradation and geomorphological, climatic conditions, and anthropogenic activity; developed and theoretically substantiated the most rational approaches and intensive differentiated technologies for creation, maintenance, use, and restoration of highly productive hayfields and pastures on natural forage lands and eroded soils.

School of Prof. Yarmolyuk M. T. – developed foundations for the creation and use of cultivated pastures based on long-term studies of sward fertilization with macro- and microfertilizers; conducted agroecological assessment of the environment.

School of Prof. Andrushkiv M. I. – developed agrotechnical methods of cultivating field beans for grain in the foothill and mountain regions of the Carpathians; scientifically substantiated various forms of mineral fertilizers and lime-sulfur wastes of mining enterprises for cereals, legumes, groat crops, and flax on acidic soils; created new varieties of flax (Zoria-87, Lvivskyi-7) and developed basic technological measures for their cultivation under soil-climatic conditions of the Western region.
